AMA Cite is designed to keep citation work simple and reviewable. This page explains what the site does, what it does not do, and how to contact us.

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to the AMA Cite website at https://www.ama-citation-generator.xyz, including the AMA citation generator, blog, and related pages. In this policy, “AMA Cite,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the service presented on this site. “You” means the person using it.

We do not require an account to create, edit, copy, or export a citation. We designed the generator to do much of its work in your browser, but some features make requests to analytics or metadata providers as described below.

2. Information we process

Information you send to us

If you email us, we receive the email address, message, attachments, and other information you choose to include. We use that information to respond, troubleshoot, and keep a record of the conversation when reasonably necessary.

Information kept in your browser

When you save citations to the generator list, the list is stored in your browser’s local storage under a site-specific key. The list is not sent to our server simply because you typed it or exported it. Clearing the site data or local storage for this site removes that browser copy.

Lookup requests

If you choose DOI, PMID, ISBN, title, or URL lookup, your browser sends the relevant query to the provider needed for that lookup. A query can contain a DOI, PMID, ISBN, title, URL, or other bibliographic text. We do not operate a server-side copy of the returned citation record for this feature.

Site and analytics information

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand page visits and improve the site. Google may process technical and usage information such as browser and device details, pages viewed, approximate location derived from network information, and interaction timing. The site does not send the contents of your citation list to Google Analytics as a custom event.

3. How we use information

  • To provide citation formatting, lookup, preview, copy, and export features.
  • To respond to support, privacy, or security messages sent to us.
  • To understand site performance and improve navigation, content, and reliability.
  • To protect the site, investigate misuse, and comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your citation inputs or email content. We do not intentionally use citation inputs to build an advertising profile.

4. Storage, cookies, and retention

The citation list saved by the tool remains in your browser until you remove it, clear the site’s storage, or the browser removes it. Exported TXT, BibTeX, and Word files are saved wherever your browser’s download settings place them; we do not receive those files.

Google Analytics may use cookies or similar technologies according to Google’s settings and policies. You can restrict cookies through your browser, use privacy controls or extensions, or block analytics requests. Those choices may affect parts of the site’s measurement, but the generator does not require an account to work.

We retain email correspondence only for as long as reasonably needed to respond, maintain support context, resolve disputes, or meet legal and security obligations. Retention periods for analytics and lookup requests are controlled in part by the relevant provider.

5. Third-party services

Lookup requests may use Crossref, PubMed and NCBI services, Google Books, Open Library, or Semantic Scholar, depending on the source type and lookup path. Google Analytics is used for site measurement. These providers operate independently and may process request, device, or usage information under their own terms and privacy notices.

The site also contains links to external research and educational resources. Once you leave AMA Cite, the destination’s policies apply. We encourage you to review those policies before submitting information to a third party.

Protect confidential information.

Do not enter patient information, protected health information, unpublished confidential material, passwords, or other sensitive data into a lookup field. A lookup query is sent to the selected third-party provider.

6. Your choices and privacy requests

  • Clear your saved citation list through your browser’s site-data controls.
  • Use browser, device, or extension controls to restrict analytics cookies or requests.
  • Choose manual entry instead of a third-party lookup when you do not want to send a query.
  • Email us to ask a question or make a privacy request.

If you contact us about personal information, we may need enough information to understand and verify the request. We will handle requests according to applicable law. Because AMA Cite does not provide user accounts or a server-side citation library, there is no account dashboard to delete.

7. Security and policy changes

We use reasonable safeguards appropriate to a small browser-based service, but no website, browser, email channel, or third-party connection can be guaranteed completely secure. Use the service only with information you are permitted to process and avoid putting confidential information into lookup fields.

We may update this policy when the service, providers, or legal requirements change. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page identifies the current version. Continued use of the site after an update means the revised policy applies to future use.
